We don't often have clients request that we fly the drone indoors, but every time that we do, it ends up being really fun. Following these robots around as they go about their business was a really unique thing to capture. They are programmed to fill e-commerce orders, and they operate all day getting the orders ready for delivery. The goal was to fly slow and steady to capture the process.
Flying indoors always throws extra curveballs your way. The GNSS signal is usually too weak to utilize a lot of the drone's smart functions, so it's important to make a flight plan to avoid all of the different structures that might be in the way. This particular warehouse had a few giant fans, lots of large posts, and some sneaky thin cables hanging from the ceiling. Aside from all the possible obstructions, this building is located right next to a small metropolitan airport. Ever though we were indoors, the airport is classified as a Class D airspace, so we had to get LAANC clearance before we were able to freely operate the drone. This is just another reason it is important to work with FAA Part 107 certified drone pilots. Enjoy the footage!
